After referral by the ward doctors, the patient is assessed through behavioural observation and through structured tests in use at our institute.
At the same time, observations/stimulations, systematic supervision during mealtimes for patients with dysphagia/presbyphagia are organised, and if speech deficits are found, he/she is placed in treatment on a daily or alternating basis.
Meetings with family members or care-givers are scheduled and two brochures are handed out, one on Aphasia and one on Dysphagia, in which family members can find answers to their doubts or information on the management of current pathologies or on returning home.
